Transforming Lives: A Testimonial of Hope In the world of mentorship, stories often tell the most compelling tale. Here at Old Colony YMCA, our mentoring program has been a beacon of hope and change for families in our community. We are thrilled to share a testimonial that beautifully illustrates the profound impact a mentor can have on a child's life, leading them towards a brighter and more promising future."The OCY Mentoring Program was an absolute blessing for our family. My son has always struggled academically and in turn, his level of confidence isn’t always the highest. This pertains not only to doing school work, but also with socializing among his peers. The mentorship program did quite a few things to help my son grow both academically and socially. The program offered a close knit, emotionally safe, comfortable and fun environment for him to thrive in.He made friends in the program and for the first time, he would look forward to going to school on the days he had group. He absolutely loved the different activities they did and enjoyed feeling comfortable enough to be himself and participate. By the end of the program, he actually began to independently pick up books at home to read! Prior to participating in the program, my son would say he hated reading and had no interest at all in reading for leisure. Since group ended, we have even taken him to get a library card at his own request! The coordinator of the program is very caring and goes above and beyond to build great rapport with the students. I loved that he kept me involved & informed with weekly check-ins where we both exchanged our observations regarding progress my son was making. I am very grateful for the program and am beyond excited for my son to be able to participate in it again this year!”If this story resonates with you and stirs your desire to be part of this incredible journey, we invite you to consider becoming a mentor or supporting our program.
