Community Services Program

In collaboration with the Department of Youth Services (DYS) and the KEY Program, Inc., the Old Colony YMCA operates six District Offices for DYS youth in the Southeast Region. These community offices are located in Quincy, Brockton, Bourne, New Bedford, Fall River, and Taunton. Staff service youth in varied positions of Resource Specialist, Site Support Specialist and Mass Start Caseworker to assist youth committed to the Department of Youth Services with a variety of activities designed to safely reintegrate the youth back into their home community.  Youth participate in a number of group and individual opportunities related to employment, education, recreation, volunteerism, job training, substance abuse treatment, and life skills. Unique to this program is that state employed DYS staff (the funding agency) are located at each site, working alongside Old Colony YMCA staff.

Families in this program can also participate in our “Parenting with Love & Limits” (PLL) Program. This program was piloted with DYS in March 2014 and continues to service the Southeast Region and District Offices. Parenting with Love and Limits (PLL) is an evidence based practice and international model designed for community re-entry programs. It uses a combination of a six week group and individual family “coaching” sessions to help support youth and their families. PLL affords the youth and family strategies to address problems, learn new skills, and practice them over time (3 to 6 months) to enhance their ability to engage with one another.
